Cycads Clivicola...the plant age of dinosaur. I had post this topic last year click here. Now this plant got a flower! It's quite difficult to see this plant have flower, may be once in a life time. After I plant this Cycads for about 7 years, 2 of them got flower, 1 is male cycads and 1 is female cycads.
Among our community, this plant we called 'Paku Haji' (Haj Fern). This plant got their name because the flower (female flower) similar as the turban.

Cycads Clivicola: Female flower

The female flower is bigger (turban), after few month (~3 month) it's will have seeds.

Cycads Clivicola: male flower

The male flower is higher not like turban and no seeds.

So if you want to have baby plant or propagate, you must have the female Cycads. How to recognize the Cycads sex without flower? Any idea?

This post I dedicate and welcome to my new Orchid Friend - Cher  from Ohio, United State with her Sunray Gardening blog to my Orchid de Dangau. Thanks Cher for being my 37th friend here. I really appreciate your support.

  5. I have only seen the ones with the male flower but I don't remember seeing the female flowers before! Interesting plant, makes a beautiful landscaping plant!

  6. I think some of the cycads are considered the rarest plants in the world. They are extinct in the wild and you are helping the species stay around.
