So sorry for not updating this blog for very long time. I'm so busy with many things due to moving to new place and working environment. I will update accordingly the previous events and activities since June to the latest updates.
I have many materials and stories to share here. I will do my best to all my fans and visitors ;)

Dari hutan ke pameran/ pertandingan (From wild to orchid show)

Orkid ini OdD dapat dari nursery dari Selangor, kali pertama menjejakkan kaki ke sana terus terpaut kepada orkid ini. Waktu itu, sekitar 2007, OdD belum ada satu pun koleksi species dari genera ini. Begitu teruja bukan kepalang! Harganya boleh tahan juga...tapi dek kerana teruja sangat dan kepingin yang teramat sangant untuk mendapat koleksi ini, dah tak kira dah. Rembat juga orkid ini. Orkid ini tak lah banyak sangat waktu beli dulu, cuma ada beberapa daun saja, kurang lebih dalam 6-7 rhizome.Pokok secara keseluruhan memang kurang sihat.

Pokok ini pula perlu dibahagi kepada tiga orang termasuk OdD, jadi memang tak seberapa lah yang OdD dapat. Apapun memang seronok sangat waktu itu. Sekrang selepas hampir 4 tahun, ia berbunga buat kali pertama. Seronok bukan kepalang, tambahan pula pokok ini mengeluarkan bunga bertepatan dengan Kulim Orchid Show...kira timing baik punya ;) Bunga pun memang cantik...seperti yang diidam-idamkan selama ini. Sykur dapat pula no ! dalam kategori ini...itu yang bertambah seronok...dan terpilih pula untuk calon Spesis terbaik...bertambah bertuah lah...walau cuma ada satu tangkai bunga saja. Walaupun tak menang ...kiranya in future pokok ini memang ada harapan untuk menjadi juara!

Waktu pertandingan/ pameran orkid lalu, tuan empunya yang menjual pokok ini pun dah tak kenal pokok nya! betapa terkejutnya dia melihat pokok ini. Dan OdD juga amat terkejut, apabila diberitahu yang pokok ini adalah 'wild collected' from Venezuela! Ingatkan waktu beli dulu ianya dari semaian biji benih. Betapa bertuahnya OdD dapat bunga secantik ini! Lophiaris lanceana/ Trichocentrum lanceanum...from wild to orchid show ;)

Common Name of the flower is Lance's Lophiaris

- the name Lophiaris are taken from English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's

This plant can be found in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianias and Trinidad . Normally this plant can found at elevations of 300 to 500 meters as a medium sized. She lives at environment hot to cool condition.

This pant have minute pseudobulbs carrying a single apical, coriaceous, oblong-lanceolate, green spotted purple and mule ear leaves.

Here in my garden, normally she blooms between end of September to mid- November, while in the jungle she blooms in the summer and fall seasons .

The flower comes with fragrant, waxy, long-lasting, variable colored flowers on a basal,. The flower spike is 1 1/2' (45 cm) long and the flower are few to many (10 to 12) flowered, from reference here, but mine is more than 12 flowers. The flower size is ~ 2 1/2" (6.2 cm)

Synonym names: Lophiaris fragrans Raf. 1838; Oncidium lanceanum Lindley 1842; Oncidium lanceanum f. aureum Christenson 1991; Trichocentrum lanceanum (Lindl.) M.W.Chase & N.H.Williams 2001

Kedah Orchid Show @ Kulim Update

Persatuan Orkid Kedah, telah menganjurkan pameran dan pertandingan orkid sempena sambutan pengistiharan ke 10, Majlis Perbandaran Kulim dan Kulim Flora Fest 2011. Ramai peserta yang telah datang menyertai pertandingan ini, dari Perlis hingga ke Pahang. Pertandingan Orkid yang berjaya! Tahniah kepada Persatuan Orkid Kedah dan juga Majlis Perbandaran Kulim!

Dendrobium (palpebrae x chrysotoxum) dengan 16 tangkai bunga telah berjaya mendapat pokok terbaik kali ini. Dikongsi bersama di sini beberapa gambar sekitar pertandingan dan pameran ini. Semua di jemput hadir ke Kulim Flora Fest jika berkelapangan, ia masih berlangsung sehinga Jumaat, 4 Nov. 2011. Seterusnya pertandingan orkid bulanan akan bergerak ke Kebun Bunga, Pulau Pinang pada 5 Nov. 2011, yang di anjurkan oleh FOMOS.

Kedah Orchid Society organized the Orchid Show at Kulim in conjunction with the 10th anniversary for announcement of Majlis Perbandaran Kulim (Kulim Municipal Council) and Kulim Flora Fest 2011. Many participants had joined this orchid show, from north (Perlis state) to South state (Cameron Highland, Pahang). It is quite successful orchid show. Congrats to Kedah Orchid Society for being the main host for this show in association with Kulim Municipal Council.

The primary hybrid, Dendrobium (palpebrae x chrysotoxum) with 16 spikes had won the best plant of this show. It is quite stunning plant. Here I share some of the beauties of the orchids during this show. If you have time please come and visit this orchid show at Medan Usahawan, Kulim, Kedah. This show will be end on Friday, 4th of November. Then the orchid show will continue at Botanical Garden, Penang and organize by Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS) on 5th November 2011.
